Slime Mold in the Woods

While contemplating a route through some steep terrain I observed this life form on a mossy log:

This life form is likely Fuiligo septica often referred to as scrambled egg slime mold with some calling it dog vomit slime mold. Not sure it fits in my categories of flora and fauna as it is not either. Just another life form in the woods to stretch my biology - I had a biologist with me on this venture.

An interesting note is that this slime mold has been reported to have very high levels of zinc. Zinc is sometimes used to kill moss.
