Western Washington Snow - a Few Miles Makes the Difference
As of 10:30 Bellingham 28F with 3 inches of snow. 20 miles to the south Mount Vernon 40F. Seattle is 46F. The Fraser out flow makes a big difference in the local weather.
Kitsap County, and Port Orchard were almost leveled by the wind Monday afternoon. My power just came back on, and I'm one of the early re-connects. Kind of fun heating the house with the old Great Majestic wood burning cookstove. No water=no fun.
Dan McShane is an engineering geologist with Stratum Group, a geology and environmental consulting company based in Bellingham, Washington. Dan has been reading Washington State landscapes since driving across the Horse Heaven Hills with his father and brother in 1970. Dan's wife has started painting Washington landscapes. The intent of this blog is to help all Washington travelers better understand the landscapes we see and share field observations.
